In Ukraine, militants resumed shelling in all directions

Despite the declared truce and the withdrawal of weapons from the line of demarcation, the militants of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) periodically carry out armed provocations.

“Starting at 7:50, Russian-terrorist mercenaries fired aimlessly from grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms eight times at Opytny, Peski and Novgorodskoye. A sniper fired at Avdeevka and Opytny. In total, 11 attacks on our positions were recorded during the day,” the press service of the headquarters of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) noted.

At the same time, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) announced violations of the Minsk agreements by militants. In the territories controlled by the so-called “LPR” and “DPR”, new armored vehicles were detected.

The Ukrainian military, who serve in the Donbas, received an order to repulse the enemy in the event of a threat to their lives.

“The Ukrainian military has a firm order in conditions where their lives are in danger, in conditions when they are the target of an attack, in conditions of extreme necessity to open fire to kill. We will not allow the enemy to catch us suddenly,” said Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during the opening of a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council.

At the same time, the head of state emphasized that we are talking about defensive actions. According to Poroshenko, the Ukrainian side is steadily implementing the “Minsk agreements” for the sake of establishing peace.

At the same time, the president stated that there is a steady tendency to worsen the situation in Donbass. “Attempts to disrupt the Minsk agreements - not just by provoking the Ukrainian military with sabotage actions, not just by shelling our territories with weapons that should have been withdrawn long ago, not just by preventing the OSCE special monitoring mission from both observation sites and places of withdrawal of military equipment, by not allowing section of the Ukrainian-Russian border uncontrolled by Ukraine - indicate that the risks and threats to national security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine remain extremely high,” Poroshenko said.

The president also said that the Ukrainian authorities are consulting with European countries and transatlantic partners regarding the extension of sanctions pressure against the aggressor country.

15 February 2015 in the Donbass, according to the Minsk agreements, a truce was declared by all parties to the conflict, but it was not possible to achieve a complete cease-fire. In a number of settlements in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the fighting continued, but from September 1 in the Donbas established the most tranquil situation of all time of hostilities.
