UN: nearly eight thousand people became victims of the conflict in Ukraine

As a result of the military conflict in the Donbass, 7883 people died, over 17 thousands were injured. This is stated in the report of the United Nations monitoring mission (UN), which on Tuesday, September 8, published on her website.

“Since the beginning of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine in mid-April, at least 2014 people, including Ukrainian military, civilians and members of armed groups, have been killed, at least 7962 have been injured,” the report said.

This report covers the period from 16 May to 15 August this year. It says that during this period the situation in the Donbas was alarming, the number of civilian casualties more than doubled compared to the previous three months - to 105 dead and 308 injured.

According to UN estimates, about three million people still live in the Donbass-controlled territory of the militants, who are not protected from human rights violations and abuses by armed groups and their supporters.

At the same time, the report criticizes the forces of the anti-terrorist operation in connection with torture and cruel treatment of detainees, as well as an imperfect throughput system on the line of demarcation.

The military conflict in eastern Ukraine began in April 2014 of the year and continues to this day. Militants control part of the territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
