The ongoing shutdown in the US - the suspension of the work of government departments due to lack of funding - will reduce production in the country by 0,1% every two weeks of downtime.

This was stated by the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors of the White House, Kevin Hasset, writes RBC.

“According to our estimates, GDP in the first quarter of this year may decline by about one tenth of a percent if the budget situation is resolved in the next few days,” said Hasset, adding that economic growth rates will decline as the continuation of the pace.

“I assume there will be something of a rule of thumb: every two weeks, one-tenth of GDP,” Hassett explained.

He noted that the economic consequences of the shatdaun are mitigated by the fact that civil servants will receive wage arrears only after resolving the budget situation.

At the same time, part of the economic indicators will still be lost due to the suspension of the work of government agencies.

"I do not expect serious economic consequences, but only if the situation that arises is resolved quickly enough," said the chairman of the board.

In the third quarter of 2018, US GDP growth was 3,4% based on annual rates. The country's reserves increased by $ 89,9 billion instead of $ 86,6 billion, as previously predicted. In the fourth quarter, economic growth is expected to slow due to the growing trade deficit, weak performance in the housing market and equipment business spending.
