Airline CEO Gary Kelly sent out letters to 142 passengers who survived, apologizing for the “circumstances” that had happened.
During the airline's flight, an engine exploded in the sky, smashing a window next to Jennifer Riordan. As a result of depressurization, the woman partially stretched out through the window of the plane, she later died in hospital.
Investigators are investigating what could have caused the explosion, because the plane passed a security check just three days before the crash.
In his letter Southwest Airlines pointed out that the National Aviation Safety Board is investigating the incident, but stated that the airline’s priority is to provide assistance to those injured.

On board the aircraft were 143 passengers, including the deceased Jennifer Riordan. The airline has not yet commented on how much compensation the family of the deceased will receive, with two children left in Albuquerque. It is also not clear whether the airline will compensate five crew members, including pilot hero Tammi Joe Schulz.
Neither the Riordan family, nor any of the passengers who survived the flight, filed a complaint against the company.
