Andriy Shevchenko appointed head coach of Ukraine national football team
Legendary football player Andrei Shevchenko, winner of the 2004 Golden Ball, became the new head coach of the Ukrainian national team. At the European Championships that ended in France, Shevchenko was part of the coaching staff of Nikolai Fomenko.
After the Ukrainians lost all 3 matches group round of Euro-2016, Fomenko announced his resignation.
Andriy Shevchenko ended his football career in 2012, after the home European championship for Ukrainians.
Shevchenko, who was the captain of the national team, is the team's top scorer in history with 48 scored goals.
The striker began his club career in Dynamo Kiev, with whom he became the five-time champion of Ukraine, after which he played for the Italian Milan and the English Chelsea.
As a member of the Milan club, he won the championship and the Italian Cup, the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup, eventually becoming the second highest scorer in the history of Milan.
With London's Chelsea, Shevchenko reached the Champions League final in 2008, when Abraham Grant's team lost to Manchester United in Moscow. In addition, the Ukrainian forward helped the club win the FA Cup and Super Cup, as well as the Football League Cup.
The pinnacle of Shevchenko's career was recognition as the best footballer of 2004 in Europe, when he received the Ballon d'Or, awarded based on a survey by France Football magazine.. Before Shevchenko, the prestigious award was given to the players of the USSR national team Lev Yashin, Oleg Blokhin and Igor Belanov.
The candidacy of 39-year-old Andriy Shevchenko for the post of head coach of the team unanimously supported the executive committee of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU).
Shevchenko's assistants will be Milan legend Mauro Tassotti, who left the club after 36 years of work (first as a player and then as a coach), and Spaniard Raul Riancho.
According to the press service FFU, the contract with Shevchenko will be signed on 2, with the possibility of extension for another two years.
