California resident spent two months in coma due to COVID-19

After spending two months in a coma due to Covid-19, a woman from California urges people to get vaccinated, reports CNN.

Andrea Arriaga Borges from Cameron Park was not vaccinated when she contracted Covid-19. In May 2021, a mother of five tested positive and was admitted to the emergency department a few days later.

“I was in a coma for 65 days and spent a total of four and a half months in the hospital,” she said. -I couldn’t walk, lost motor skills and muscles, lost about 16 kg and came home in a wheelchair; I learned to walk again.”

That is why those who once did not dare to get vaccinated change their minds.

According to an analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University, the United States again broke its average daily incidence record on January 2, with 403 infections. Hospital admissions are on the rise, but the peak since January last year was 385% higher, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services.

While Arriaga Borges, 48, has recovered, the effects of Covid remain with her, as does her “hoarse voice” after a tracheotomy. She added that she was on a feeding tube for several months and could not speak.

“The doctors told my children, my sister, my husband that I had about a 5 percent chance of survival,” Arriaga Borges said. She took every chance and went home on August 29th.

According to her, she was previously "against" vaccination. When asked what she thinks about it, Arriaga Borges replied that she is healthy and has no major health problems. She never smoked, had no heart or lung problems.

“I thought I would be sick for four or five days and then get better, but it didn’t work out that way,” she said.

After facing death, Arriaga Borges encourages people to get vaccinated.

“I don't want anyone to go through what I went through,” she said. “The only thing I can recommend is to just have an extra layer of protection and get vaccinated. Get a booster. I feel like everyone should have a choice, but at the same time it's about protecting yourself and others."
