Hannes Sjoblad, head of Swedish startup Dsruptive Subdermals, which developed a subcutaneous chip to display COVID-19 vaccinations, said the technology should be widely used despite public criticism.

Hannes Sjoblad is the executive director of Dsruptive Subdermals, which has created a 2 by 16 millimeter microchip and offers to implant it in people under the skin, primarily in the European Union. When scanning, the device will display a PDF document on the screens of mobile smartphones with information about the carrier's vaccination or a positive coronavirus test result. The implant costs about $ 114.

The project caused a storm of excitement and a lot of criticism on social networks, some users reproached the method for invasiveness, that is, the need for penetration into the body. A spokesman for Dsruptive Subdermals said in an interview that chipping should be widespread in the future.

“This technology exists and is used whether we like it or not. I'm glad this has become a topic of public discussion, new technologies need to be widely discussed and understood. He added that the information from the chip will be available to anyone. For example, people around using smartphones will be able to check if the carrier is vaccinated against coronavirus.

According to the developer, the implants are not designed to track people, cannot transmit location data and only work when scanned by a smartphone.

“They don't have a battery. They cannot transmit a signal on their own. Thus, they are basically passive, hibernating,” said the head of Dsruptive Subdermals.
