Woman landed from Air Canada aircraft due to a request to scavenge
An 71-year-old woman claims she was dropped off of an Air Canada flight after she entered into an argument with a flight attendant because of garbage.
Ellen Flemming August 18 was on her way from British Columbia home with her husband and two grandchildren, they were flying from Toronto to New Brunswick when a woman found rubbish in her pocket on the back of the chair in front of her. She called a flight attendant asking for the garbage to be removed, and he replied that “he is not engaged in cleaning,” writes Fox News.
Flemming tried to throw the garbage in the trash when the flight attendant was walking down the aisle with her, but the man tried to stop her.
According to her, he grabbed her hand and tried to pull her from the basket, but in the process, the woman’s hand hit something and the garbage fell apart. As a result, the passenger pushed the garbage into the passage, because the flight attendant refused to accept it.
As a result, according to another passenger, Helen Hallett, the flight attendant got angry and started screaming at Flemming.
“I saw what happened, and what happened was wrong... We pay good money for these places. I don’t think Air Canada should treat people like that,” Hallett said.
Shortly after this, the plane turned around and headed back to Toronto, the crew stated that it was “for the safety of passengers.”
After landing, two police officers and an Air Canada agent entered the plane and asked Fleming to leave the salon, saying that she would need to book a new flight. After that, the plane with her husband and grandchildren on board flew away.
When Flemming tried to book a ticket for another Air Canada flight, she was informed that she would never be able to use the services of this airline again.
Flemming eventually went home on another airline's plane. Later, the woman received a letter from Air Canada stating that she “showed aggression against a crew member; threw trash on the food cart; kicked a crew member when he asked to wait until he returned in order to pick up the garbage, because at the moment he was busy distributing food. ”
In a report on the incident, the police stated that “no criminal offenses were committed” and that “it was established that both parties were involved in a loud verbal dispute”.
“We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable flight for our passengers and a safe working environment for our employees. Our crew members are professionals who are well trained to handle difficult situations. We cannot provide additional information or discuss individual cases or incidents for privacy reasons. We encourage customers to contact Air Canada directly if they have any concerns,” Air Canada said.
Flemming consults with his lawyer on the options for resolving the issue in the legal field and receiving compensation.
