A woman on 5 hours delayed the flight, throwing coins “for good luck” into the aircraft engine
The 80-year-old woman’s act led to an 5 delay in airline flight hours China Southern Airlines from Shanghai to Guangzhou (PRC) - she threw several coins into the plane's engine.
Technicians had to open the motor, completely check it and clean it, reports CNN.
The 150 passengers on board were taken out of the plane by security personnel for the test period.
During the inspection, airport staff discovered 9 coins at the scene of the incident, one of which hit the plane’s engine Airbus A320, the rest fell to the ground nearby.
According to police, the total value of coins thrown into the engine is 1,7 yuan (about 25 cents), while the cost of inspecting the engine and flight delays can be thousands of dollars.
80-year-old woman, who had not previously been prosecuted and had no mental abnormalities, explained her act by praying that the flight would pass without any problems and throw coins “for good luck”.
The police continue to investigate the incident, but they have excluded any criminal purpose in the actions of an elderly woman.
