What you need to know if you are flying in a private jet for the first time

1. Parking Etiquette

If you are flying a private plane, you can usually get there by car to load your luggage with ease. The car can be parked until your return.

However, Denise Wilson, the founder, president and chief executive officer Desert jet, notes that there is some etiquette to adhere to: “Put the wheels in front of the airplane, park the car, and set the parking brake to prevent it from rolling away. 2. Limit your luggage

According to Wilson, most small aircraft allow up to 7 suitcases.

Nick Taraschio, CEO Ventura Air Services, adds that it is better to fly with soft bags on private jets. “If you fly with frame bags, you force the pilots and the entire staff to play a game of Tetris, trying to figure out how to fit your bags in the closets and overhead bins.”

3. Avoid red wine

You can legitimately carry your own drink on board. But the FAA rules state that the flight crew should bring, pour and carry away alcohol.

“Remember to avoid red wine on most private jets due to the potential for spills during turbulence and the high cost of replacing contaminated and stained components,” Wilson says.

4. You still need identification.

One of the advantages of private flights is that you do not have to wait for a TSA check or adhere to fluid restrictions. However, you still need an ID to board the plane. A driver's license is enough for domestic flights, and a passport is useful for international ones.

5. Know that there is only one place indicated.

Although private jets do not have these seats, passengers cannot sit where they want. “The only place indicated on a private jet is the one that the owner or the person who pays for the trip will choose. Guests must wait until the owner or team leader chooses a place for himself. ”

6. Thank your pilot politely

According to Tarassio, many private jet pilots don't earn as much as you think, not to mention that along with the flight, they also load bags, clean the plane and spend significant time planning all aspects of the flight. If you're happy with your service, offering a tip—anywhere from $20 to $1000—is a nice gesture.

7. Your departure time may vary.

Are you late? Although you shouldn't be late for no reason - pilots will usually wait for you at the airport if there is a problem. Tarassio explains that many companies begin preparing planes an hour before departure, so you can often leave even earlier.

8. Better to book in advance

Yes, most private jets can be booked on the same day. But this does not mean that you will fly on the plane on which you want.

“Choosing the right aircraft for the right purpose depends on several factors. Business travelers strive to maximize their working hours and minimize travel time. This could mean a plane with Wi-Fi to continue work on board. For many XOJET customers flying across the country, the speed Citation X reduces flight time by 30 minutes. Again, it all comes down to convenience and efficiency. For personal and family travel, it's really a matter of personal preference, but factors like pets and luggage can make a difference,” says Daniel Talbott, regional vice president of sales at XOJET.

9. Dress properly

Although there is no formal dress code for private flights, Collins advises not to forget that you are representing your boss or yourself and should dress accordingly.
