WSJ: Lithuanian online edition received the threat of reprisals "like in Paris"

Lithuanian information portal Delfi received a letter threatening to attack its journalists, similar to the attack on the French weekly charlie hebdo, reports the Wall Street Journal.

After receiving the letter on Thursday, employees of the online edition were evacuated.

The newspaper points out that the letter sent to the editor-in-chief, Monika Garbachauskayte-Boudrene, was written in Russian and enclosed in an envelope along with a package with brown powder.

“Die Muslims, as in Paris soon. Wait, Delphi - will soon be kirdyk! Allah Akbar! ”, - says the text of the note, the photo of which is published on the Delfi website.

The note was accompanied by a drawing with two crosses and a gravestone with the inscription "Monica".

Laboratory tests showed that the powder does not contain dangerous bacteria, reported on Thursday evening journalist publication Sarunas Chernyauskas.

The Wall Street Journal writes that it is not yet clear from whom this threat may emanate.

Lithuanian police did not respond to the newspaper’s request for comment.

Delfi is one of the most influential information portals with sections in Lithuanian, Russian and English. The editorial board employs more than 50 people, even more 150 employees work in the Delfi group of companies across the country, the Wall Street Journal said.

Delfi is also well known in other Baltic countries, where the portal maintains websites in Latvian and Estonian.

According to the Wall Street Journal, after the threat of attack, the police evacuated more than 80 people from the Vilnius editorial office of Delfi, writes Voice of America.
