Israeli figure skater Alexei Bychenko won the silver medal at the European Championship in figure skating in Slovakia. Bychenko is the first Israeli to become a winner in such prestigious competitions in this sport. This time a member of the Israeli Olympic team scored 242,56 points. One of the championship favorites, Russian Maxim Kovtun, performed poorly and ended up third. The current world champion, Spaniard Javier Fernandez, took gold with a score of 302,77 points.

Alexey Bychenko was born in Kiev. Until 2009, he played for the Ukrainian team. Two-time silver medalist of the championships of Ukraine. From 2011, he represents Israel. For the first time he performed under the Israeli flag at a tournament in Croatia. Alexey Bychenko lives and trains in the USA.

The silver medalist of the European Championship in figure skating told journalists that he still could not believe that he won second place.

“Considering that I am the first medalist in the history of Israel, we can say that a big dream has come true! Well, my personal dream came true, because I have never been on the European podium. For me, this is even more than a dream, probably,” Alexey Bychenko told the site sovsport.ru.

 

The place occupied by Alexei Bychenko ensured him participation in the World Championship, which will be held in two months in Boston.
