Uber driver left passenger in the middle of the highway: a man was hit to death by a car

A lawsuit filed against an Uber driver from San Francisco, California alleges that a 21-year-old Southern California man was hit and killed after the driver abandoned him on the side of a highway. The edition told in more detail SF Gate.

Cory Hunter, a 21-year-old Corona resident, died in May after he was hit by a motorist in a Toyota Corolla while walking in the Highway 91 express lane, according to news reports.

The lawsuit, filed by Hunter's parents, alleges that an Uber driver left Hunter on the side of the road and he was disoriented. Hunter's family accuses the carrier of negligence and misconduct. An Uber spokesperson said the company could not comment on the lawsuit.

The night before, Hunter and a group of five friends had been drinking in downtown Fullerton. During the ride around 02:30 a.m., according to the lawsuit, the driver stopped to let out one of the passengers who had become ill. Hunter, who was asleep during the ride, was reportedly told to get out of the car along with other passengers. Hunter disappeared, and his friends and driver tried to call him, but to no avail.

He did not return to the car before the group left. According to Uber driver Teid Salazar's lawyer, friends of the missing guy assured the driver that he would show up. The lawyer said that the driver, trying to find Hunter, turned the other way.

Hunter was hit by a Toyota Corolla just before 3 am. The driver of the Toyota Corolla who hit him stopped and is not under investigation, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.

"We sympathize with Hunter's family, but my client acted reasonably given the totality of the circumstances," Salazar said. “Death is something that weighs very heavily on my client. He has children of his own and is very, very active in his community; it caused him a lot of suffering.”

Corey Hunter was remembered by friends and family as “a bundle of energy and joy and a beautiful soul,” they wrote in a tribute on his memorial website.

“Being around him, you could see how much he loved his friends and family,” one friend wrote.

"He brought a lot of love and laughter to our home and his legacy will never be forgotten," Norco High football coach Greg Johnston remarked in an Instagram post mourning the loss.

The family of the deceased is seeking damages totaling just over $25 from Uber, the Uber driver and the Toyota driver.
