Verizon has removed from work an employee who used work equipment to rescue a cat stuck on top of a telephone pole.

23 in March Verizon employee Maurice Hermann worked in Port Richmond, Pennsylvania. A local resident approached him and asked for help to save the cat named Mom, who climbed onto a telephone pole and could not get down on her own. At that time, the animal had already spent about 12 hours on the pole. The Daily Mail.

Hermann used a working lift to get to the cat and save the animal. People gathered downstairs, they filmed a video rescue operation and applauded Herman.

The cat was safely returned to its owner without any harm. But Maurice Herman suffered. Verizon suspended him for 15 days, saying the machinery and equipment were not intended for use in the area where he worked.

Verizon spokesman Rich Young told CBS Philly: “We are not happy about this decision. But we are responsible for the safety of our employees and customers when working in a certain area. ”

He added: “Unfortunately, although the goal of this employee is admirable, he potentially put his life and the lives of others at risk. Although our actions may be unpopular, it is in the interests of our employees and the communities we serve. ”

Young said that Verizon donates funds to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Fishton, Pennsylvania, to support the efforts of a charitable organization to save animals.

Amanda Boyes from Port Richmond said that one of her neighbors was trying to save a cat, but to no avail. The owner of the cat called the fire department, the animal rescue service and the telephone company, hoping to get the animal from the post. One of the residents sought out Hermann and asked for his help. Boyce posted on Facebook about the incident, accompanying the text with a picture that read "Cat's Life Matters."

The removal of Herman from work caused outrage among local residents. They created two GoFundMe pages to raise funds and compensate for the 15 man days without work.
