The janitor who found gold bars in the garbage can was allowed to leave them
In South Korea, a janitor found seven gold bars in a garbage can. He was allowed to leave them, if no one else claims the right to property, writes CNBC.
The janitor, whose name was not disclosed, found gold bars weighing 1 kg each, wrapped in a newspaper, at Incheon International Airport. Ingots are valued at 350 million won ($ 325 thousand).
The Korean, the owner of the bullion, and two other men, threw gold out of fear of searches at customs. Men traveled from Hong Kong to Japan via South Korea, suggesting that it would be easier to go through customs searches.
If the owner claims ownership of the ingots, the janitor can still claim from 5% to 20% of the market price or 17,5 million won ($ 16 250) and 70 million won ($ 60 thousand), respectively. But he will not get anything if the gold found was associated with criminal activity.
