The Uzbek state airline Uzbekistan Airways intends to weigh passengers before flights. “A pre-flight weighing procedure is being carried out to determine the average weight of the passenger along with hand luggage,” it says. The press release states that the weighing of passengers is carried out according to the rules of the International Air Transport Association. The purpose of the procedure is to determine the average weight of the passenger with hand luggage. In this case, as follows from the message, the confidentiality of the results is guaranteed. In the registration form of weighing results will indicate only the category of the passenger (man, woman or child).

The message does not say what will happen if the passenger refuses to undergo the procedure. It is also not reported whether the cost of the ticket will now depend on the weight of the passenger.

Note that in some European countries it was proposed to force obese passengers to either pay extra for “extra” weight, or immediately buy two seats. The idea of ​​introducing such fees was put forward by the American airline United Airlines, the Irish Ryanair, and the French Air France even used this practice.
