In the US, created a phone that works without a battery
Scientists from the University of Washington in the city of Seattle presented a cell phone that works without a battery.
The phone was made from parts and elements available on the market. It is capable of receiving and making calls, and receives energy from radio waves. “We are surrounded by radio waves. We just bathe in them. For example, radio stations transmit music using ultra-short waves,” said Vamsi Talla, a research fellow.
The developers of the batteryless phone wanted him to use less energy for calls than regular phones, and also use an analog signal rather than a digital signal.
“Typically, a cell phone uses about hundreds of milliwatts of energy for voice calls. Unfortunately, there is no way to make this phone work without a battery,” said Vamsi Talla.
Nowadays users of a batteryless phone must use headphones and a mode switch: in one, to listen to the other party, in the other, to speak. However, the developers are planning to create a more economical screen and even build a camera into the phone.
“In the future, every phone will be able to operate in battery-free mode, meaning you will be able to make calls even when the battery is low,” added Vamsi Talla.
