New credit cards will be with changing security code

The French digital security company Oberthur Technologies, whose main manufacturing facilities are located in Los Angeles, has developed a digital display that runs on a microbattery. This technology will allow 3 or 4 to change the CVV code numbers on the back of the card up to 72 once a day.

Since it is this code that is used to verify the card when paying, it will significantly increase the level of card security and protect users from data theft, reports Los Angeles Times.

On the reverse side of the credit card will be placed a small display, which will display the change of the protective cipher. The display will be made of strong material that is not susceptible to the penetration of dust and moisture and corresponds to the thickness of the plastic card. Power will come from a small lithium energy storage device, designed for 3 years of operation, after which the card is replaced.

It is expected that the technology, called the Motion Code, will work in the US already in 2017 year.

In Europe, the first cards with similar protection have already been issued.

Online purchases of Americans make up about 23% of the financial turnover in this area, while Americans are victims of 39% identity theft to use foreign credit cards in the world.

This is due to the fact that the US has just begun to use an additional security system developed in Europe - the so-called EMV smart chip. This small metal square on the left side of the credit card issues a special code each time the card is used, making it much more difficult to counterfeit the card. In the United States, this system was introduced very slowly, since machines that read such chips cost about $500, and stores were in no hurry to spend this money on purchasing them. Therefore, many merchants still use old card terminals, which does not allow them to take advantage of chip technology.
