In the US, started collecting funds for the conservation of the Armstrong spacesuit
The National Aerospace Museum of the United States began collecting money for the conservation of the spacesuit, in which astronaut Neil Armstrong made the first walk in the history of mankind on the Moon.
The organizers of the crowdfunding campaign explain the need for financing by the fact that in 1960-ies the spacesuits were made without counting on long-term use, therefore, now the costume wears off pretty quickly.
The success of the campaign will allow to exhibit the original spacesuit in the museum. Now, due to the fragility of the materials, only a copy of it is exhibited.
The Kickstarter platform campaign, called Reboot the Suit, began on Monday, the forty-sixth anniversary of the first landing on the moon. At the time of this writing, forty-three thousand were collected from the claimed five hundred thousand dollars.
Neil Armstrong passed away in August 2012 at the age of eighty-two.
On July 1969, XNUMX, he became the first person to ever walk on the surface of the Moon. At that moment, he uttered the now famous phrase: “A small step for a man, but a giant leap for humanity.”
