The approximate date is November 19. Discussion of the details of the action and its coordination takes place via chats in more than 20 regions of the country. It is already known that applications have been submitted to hold rallies in Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk and the Chelyabinsk region. In Moscow and the Moscow region the action is scheduled for a later date.

Judging by numerous publications in the press, Russian women, whose husbands and sons were sent to fight in Ukraine, are in vain knocking on the doorsteps of authorities in attempts to achieve the return of loved ones. This was the reason that pushed them towards consolidation.

“Russia is paying a huge price for continuous attacks near Avdeevka, Bakhmut and Liman. And this price is not only a nightmare for mothers, but also a headache for the authorities on the eve of the presidential elections, tentatively scheduled for March 1924,” reports the human rights telegram channel “Mir. Progress. Human rights".

The BBC, together with the Mediazona publication and a team of volunteers, based on open information, revealed that from June to the end of October alone, about seven thousand Russian soldiers died in Ukraine. In total, since the beginning of the war, journalists have identified the names of more than 36 thousand people. And this despite the fact that the real number of losses is higher. According to intelligence information from a number of countries, the number of Russians killed on the Ukrainian front has long exceeded one hundred thousand.

In Russia, in connection with the war in Ukraine, social tension, anxiety and fear for the future are growing, as human rights journalist Oleg Elanchik says. According to him, this is primarily caused by huge losses in the ranks of the Russian army as a result of a thoughtless offensive near Avdeevka, Bakhmut and Kupyansk.

“An economy oriented towards war, in turn, leads to the degradation of all spheres of life and the basic institutions of maintaining order,” he added. – People associate all these problems in one way or another with the war and Putin’s policies. A recent Levada Center study showed that 70% of the population is in favor of ending the war, with many agreeing with the complete withdrawal of troops from the occupied territories.”

Growing protest sentiments

“I have no doubt that the authorities are seriously concerned about such sentiments and are making every effort to find an acceptable way out of the situation,” noted Oleg Elanchik. “Now they are trying to lull discontent.” The action, initiated mainly by the close and relatives of those mobilized, creates a serious problem both for Putin personally and for his entourage on the eve of the 2024 elections.”

“The outbreaks of protest that we are seeing are a spontaneous protest of despair, behind which there is colossal, but still dormant, energy. It’s difficult to guess what the situation will lead to, but under certain circumstances this energy may well be realized,” he concluded.

Dissatisfaction with the war is noticeable mainly among families who were directly affected by the war, says social psychologist Alexey Roshchin. In his opinion, it is not yet clear how large this group is.

“In addition, the families of the mobilized are a very heterogeneous mass,” he says. “But they are starting to act and create a cause for concern for the authorities. These people are well aware of the value of time: the longer their loved ones are at war, the less chance they have of returning home alive and uninjured. Therefore, they pose the question point blank: when will the mobilized be released from the front?”

“The regime does not have an acceptable solution. We are unable to carry out a rotation of power on the fronts. Because then another mobilization will have to be carried out, and after the first it became clear that it was perceived frankly negatively by citizens. Therefore, the authorities are forced to make excuses in the hope that protest sentiments will fade away on their own. And in the event of a fire, as usual, they will launch the repressive machine at full blast,” Roshchin said.

Bonded contract

According to media reports, the Russian military in the hottest spots of the Ukrainian front for months has no chance of even a short-term vacation, moreover, they are not changed in combat positions for a long time, which contributes to the growth of sentiment close to despair.

Dissatisfaction with this matter is growing, and at the parliamentary level women are being “calmed down”: your men will be released when the so-called SVO ends.

“Of course, no one knows when it will end. So those who went to war voluntarily, taking the bait of money, or out of stupidity, fell into an iron trap. They cannot return either of their own free will or even due to the expiration of the contract. In legal terms, this is called an “enslaving contract,” like the recruitment of the times of Tsarist Russia, when soldiers were shaved for 25 years,” says Roshchin.

There is another side to the problem: high tension is created in the active army, as Alexey Roshchin claims.

“And historical experience shows well what this leads to. It was the acute discontent in the troops and the refusal to send people home that, in fact, provoked two destructive revolutions in a row - the February and October,” he concluded.
