In Michigan, a police officer helped an old lady and inspired others to help her
75-year-old Dolores Marotta arrived at the gas station and asked the employee to pour gas for three dollars. The policeman heard her request and surprised the old woman when he added another $ 20 to fill her tank.
31 August officer Todd Bean watched Marotta give away a couple of crumpled dollar bills to pay for a gallon of gas.
Marotta said she had only three dollars until she received a pension, but she needed gas to get to the doctor and come back.
Bean followed the woman to the pump and told her to wait in the car while he helped her pour the gas into the tank. They began to talk, and the woman said that her husband, James, passed away in 2015. After the loss, she struggles to pay real estate taxes, buy groceries and fill up the car that her daughter gave her. During the conversation, Bing continued to pour gas in the car.
The 17 year-old police veteran said that this act was only mutual aid.
“It’s the right thing to do, officers do it all the time,” Bing said.
Good deed has become viral
This act of kindness was filmed by the owner of the gas station, Seth Kazz, who posted a post on Facebook.
Since then, the post has been shared over 22 000 times.
Kazz said he decided to capture the moment in hopes it would give people a good example. “I just wanted to show something more positive,” he said.
He added that this woman often comes to them to buy some gasoline: “I thought to myself: what if it would be my mother, and I wasn’t there to support her?”
Kazz himself is known for helping his clients who have financial problems.
After the post was published, the owner of the gas station received about a thousand messages from people who wanted to send money and help Marotta. The man decided that the best thing is to create an entry on GoFundMe.
The goal was to collect $ 5000, but at the time of this writing, $ 17 004 was collected.
Marotta is grateful for the support. When CNN reported the amount that concerned citizens had donated to her on GoFundMe, she was shocked. “I appreciate everything and I want people to know how grateful I am for the help,” the woman said.
