The retired couple revealed the secrets of making $ 75 000 on Airbnb
Many older people rent rooms and homes for additional income, but for James and Jah Yates, rent is more than extra income, it is their way of life.
A Los Angeles couple is renting out two rooms of their long, century-old home on Airbnb. It's a full-time job: "We haven't retired yet," James jokes. They earn between $70 and $000 a year, 75 times more than other renters their age, according to the company.
The couple likes to welcome guests from around the world at home, and their visitors are grateful for the hospitality, leaving great reviews and high ratings. This helped them earn Superhost status on the platform.
“They accepted our children as their own,” wrote a recent guest.
Another wrote: "This is by far the best Airbnb experience we have ever had."
The couple says that their interest in people is real.
For those who want to try to become the same, James and Jha reveal the secret of success on Airbnb.
Yates charges $ 109 per night, while the average cost of housing in Los Angeles on Airbnb is $ 136. The rooms are equipped with all standard amenities, including Wi-Fi and free parking. But their guests get a big bonus for their money: a hearty breakfast.
Every morning, Jha prepares a table with bacon and eggs, scrambled eggs, French toast and other delicacies.
“I make sure they're full when they leave my kitchen,” Jha says. “They’re not hungry until 15 p.m.” She estimates that breakfast costs her $12 per person.
Delicious food attracts guests very much. “The breakfasts every morning are incredible, delicious and help you start each day off right,” wrote one recent guest, adding that Jha also made extra snacks for the kids.
Charity
James and Jah donate leftover food to homeless people next door. This is just one of the many ways in which a couple pays tribute to their community. They also run a scholarship fund called Soul 2 Seoul, which gives money to students who support racial unity. Until now, they have given out $ 70 000, which was made possible by their income from Airbnb.
Both receive social security and two pensions, in addition to other rental income, so the money they earn through Airbnb is largely spent on others.
Know your audience
One of the ways that helps James and Ja to please the guests is that they include national cuisine in the daily breakfast. Guests from Mexico can get cakes, from China - rice.
The couple also cares about the integrity of their rooms. One detail that they notice after the guests is that the pillows often become musty from sweat. Therefore, they gently wash and dry the pillows, having two sets of each, so guests can use one set while the other is erased.
To care for the cleanliness of the rooms, the couple hired two part-time employees.
Some of their seven grandchildren, from 13 to 27 years, are also involved in the hassle of wanting to make some money. Earnings Airbnb helped the couple to go all the families to Korea and Africa.
And most importantly, they get great pleasure from meeting new people.
