According to the state police, four students and a teacher received minor injuries, and a 16-year-old student who detonated the device received moderate to severe injuries. The bomb exploded in the classroom on March 8.

Peggy Mathis, head of the Neweigo, Michigan Department of Education, said the explosion was "not an attack or intentional, it happened by accident."

“Nobody set up an explosive device on purpose to injure the schoolchildren. Those directly connected with the situation stated that it was an accident, ”added Matiz.

Initially, school officials said the hospitalized 16-year-old was the only one allegedly injured in the blast. State police later said that four students were taken by their parents to a hospital for minor injuries. One teacher also asked for help.

Neweigo police said the explosion was reported at 08:52.

An early investigation reveals that a 16-year-old teenager brought explosives to school. Police spokeswoman Michelle Robinson said she could not describe the device while the investigation continues.

After the explosion, the students were evacuated to the bus garage.

School staff and first responders immediately tried to determine what had happened and if other students were in danger. The rest of the schools in Neweigo County were closed until police determined that the students were no longer in danger.

The high school students were eventually released for a day due to smoke in the building and a police investigation.

During the search of the teenager's house, several more similar explosive devices were found. The police seized and destroyed them, writes MLive.

Several residents of nearby houses said they felt their houses shake during the explosions. And those who lived in the South Spruce Avenue area between 94th and 96th streets were told by police that they could not be at home.

“It was a one-off incident that was not meant to harm people,” said Georgia Police Chief Andres.

The type of materials used in the explosives is not disclosed by the police.
