In California, more than half a million driver’s licenses were issued to illegal immigrants

In California, 605 thousands of driver’s licenses have been issued to people illegally staying in the States. This amount amounted to half of all licenses issued by the state, according to the California Police Department.

During the first six months, almost 400 thousand driver’s licenses were issued.

To implement the law in California, they additionally recruited a thousand temporary employees and opened four additional data centers, which increased their reception hours and made working Saturday.

Government leaders and law enforcement officials are confident that the law will improve road safety.

“We believe this new law improves safety on California roadways when a licensed driver is behind the wheel,” the police department said.

Rights granted under state law are subject to federal restrictions. Unlike California law enforcement agencies, police officers from other states are not required to consider rights as an identity document.
