In California, a policeman stopped a pedestrian and changed his life

A police council in the Beneše town of California presented a bicycle to a teenager who spent 5 hours every day on the way to work and back. This good story was published by The Washington Post.

It all started with the corporal with 11-year experience Kirk Keffer, as always, patrolled his territory in the evening and noticed a lone pedestrian walking on the side of the road. The policeman was surprised, because in the industrial area there is only a highway and there is no zone for pedestrians.

Keffer stopped and offered assistance to the pedestrian. It turned out to be 18-year-old Jordan Duncan. The corporal thought that the guy had a car broken down and he had to walk the rest of the road. What was his surprise when Duncan said that from Vallejo, where his parents live, to work in Benish, he walks on foot.

Every day he travels the distance in 40 km. In general, he spends 5 hours per day.

Keffer was shocked. He quickly cleared the front seat of the car and invited the guy to take him home.

Along the way, Duncan said that he had finished school about a year ago, and now he is working to save up for college tuition. He has a car, 15-year-old Volvo. A couple of months after the guy got a job, the car broke down. Repair was not affordable for him. At first he went to work with friends, but soon decided not to burden anyone with his own problems and began to walk.

“I was taken aback. There aren’t a lot of kids these days who will commute 5 hours to work and save money for college,” Keffer said.

After 15 minutes, Keffer dropped Duncan at his parents' house and headed for the police station in Beniche. Along the way, he kept thinking about how to help the guy. He told the story to his boss, who offered to buy a mountain bike for Duncan.

Since on Sunday the bike shop was closed, on Monday the corporal first thing went for a gift. Shop owner Greg Andrade was touched by this story and presented a helmet, brake light and lighting system.

The police, coordinating everything with the head of Duncan, handed the teenager a brand-new bicycle in appreciation. Now Duncan gets to work and back in an hour.
