The State Duma of the Russian Federation wants to cancel the recognition of the independence of Lithuania

Deputy Fedorov introduced a draft law on the abolition of recognition of Lithuanian independence to the State Duma, reports Slow.

State Duma deputy Yevgeny Fedorov submitted to the lower house of parliament a draft law on the abolition of the resolution of the USSR State Council "On the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Lithuania." The corresponding document was published in the Duma basis.

According to the explanatory note to the bill, the resolution of the State Council of the USSR is illegal, as it was adopted by an unconstitutional body and in violation of the requirements of a number of articles of the Constitution.

Fedorov said that the USSR law "On the procedure for resolving issues related to the secession of a union republic from the USSR" was violated, since a referendum on secession from the USSR was not held in the Republic of Lithuania, and a transitional period was not established to consider all controversial issues .

The deputy recalled that the Constitution of Russia was supplemented with Article 67.1, which states that "the Russian Federation is the legal successor of the USSR on its territory."

In 1991, Lithuania withdrew from the USSR, becoming the first union republic to declare independence.
