In Philadelphia, a bus crashed into a house: one dead and several wounded
52-year-old James Derbyshire was relaxing in the courtyard with his family, relaxing in the children's pool, when the SEPTA bus, which had lost control, suddenly flew into the lawn in front of his house. The man died on the spot, two more family members threw a blow.
The tragedy occurred in northeast Philadelphia, reports NBC Philadelphia. 20-year-old woman who was standing next to the pool and 28-year-old man, who managed to jump out of it a second before the impact, were seriously injured. From the impact in the wall of the house there was a large hole, the wall partially collapsed into the basement.
A series of tragic coincidences began on Tuesday around six in the evening. The bus moved along Morell Avenue to a junction with Frankford Avenue in northeast Philadelphia. Eyewitnesses later said that the 49-year-old driver had driven a red light near the intersection of these streets. After the bus crossed Frankford Avenue, he hit white Lincoln, then hooked on a red Ford Fusion, which flew forward from the blow.
Police said the bus drove onto a lawn in front of Derbyshire's house, where he killed one person and injured three others. A man and a woman were pulled out from under the fence that fell on them, and they were hospitalized. It was not possible to save James Derbyshire, the bus literally nailed him to the wall. The driver of the bus and the driver of Ford Fusion escaped with minor injuries, they and two passengers were sent to the hospital. There were 16 people in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The authorities have not yet reported what could cause the loss of control of the bus driver. The investigation continues.
