In Philadelphia, the 4-year-old boy saved his premature twin brothers by becoming a donor for them.

Santino and Giovanni Demasi were born prematurely. Shortly after birth, they were diagnosed with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD).

The boys' older brother, Dominic 9, was also diagnosed with CGD in infancy, but he received a transplant from an anonymous donor before he was one year old and recovered.

CGD is a rare immunodeficiency disorder that makes the body more susceptible to infections. It is estimated to occur in 1 in 200 to 000 people worldwide.

“We knew it was possible, but for it to happen again with both babies, we were shocked,” the 32-year-old mother said.

The family's 4-year-old son Michael does not have CGD and was able to become a donor for both of his little brothers. His parents and doctors at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia explained to Michael what it meant to be a donor and asked if he would be willing to help his brothers. Michael agreed.

The procedure was scheduled for March. First, Michael went through all the necessary tests and procedures, and then went to watch how his bone marrow was transplanted to the brothers.

"He could have said, 'No mom, I'm too scared and I don't want to,' but he was ready and he's our real-life superhero," Robin Pownlall said.

The twins, who turned 7 months, spent several weeks in the hospital. 1 May Pounllall posted a touching video with Michael and his brothers on the social network, ready to go home.

“Okay, I saved you guys. It's time to go home," Michael said in the video.
