Ten airports in the United States tightened checks
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is tightening regulations at 10 airports across the country. Airport security officers apply new instructions that require the removal of more items from carry-on bags.
“It becomes a problem because the more stuff you put in a bag, the harder it is to recognize what is a threat and what is not,” said former TSA Deputy Assistant John Halinski.
“Passengers were already required to have their laptops ready for separate screening, but now at airports where testing is taking place they must also present all devices larger than a mobile phone - including tablets and e-readers,” Darby said LaJoie, Assistant Security Administrator.
And “TSA officers may also advise the traveler to place different carry-on bags separately in different boxes,” LaJoie said. “Including food and books, which can obscure X-rays.”
It is reported that the test is not related to reports banning laptops on flights to the US from Europe.
Here are the 10 airports where more thorough screening is being tested:
- Civil Airport in Boise, Idaho
- Airport in Colorado Springs, Colorado
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne Airport
- Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport in Florida
- Logan International Airport in Boston
- Los Angeles International Airport
- Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport
- Internationale Luis Munoz Marin Airport in Puerto Rico
- McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
