Belarus will no longer be fined for alcohol in the house
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has ordered the necessary changes to the legislation abolishing the limit on the storage of alcohol for individuals.
Penalties for exceeding the limit alcohol became the reason for heated public discussion after the tax inspectorate in Gomel announced at the end of May that it had identified a doctor “collector” who had collected 178 bottles of vodka, whiskey, rum, cognac and other drinks in his home.
All alcohol in his home bar had Belarusian excise stamps, however, under current law, it’s not allowed to keep at home more than 15 liters of alcohol with Belarusian excise if there are no checks for it, or other documents confirming the purchase.
The limit on foreign alcohol is set to five liters.
For exceeding established limits, the Belarusian Code of Administrative Offenses provides for a fine of up to 100 basic amounts established by the state (today this is approximately $1200), with confiscation of alcoholic beverages exceeding the amount allowed by law.
