In Belgium, a terrorist killed three people and took a woman hostage

In the Belgian city of Liege, a man shouting "Allah Akbar" killed two policemen and one passer-by.

After that, he took hostage a cleaner of a nearby school, Belgian security officers managed to kill a suspect in a shootout, some of them were injured, according to Daily Mail.

The moment of the shootout between the police and the terrorist was videotaped by one of the witnesses.

The attacker approached two female police officers around 10: 30 local time, cut their throats and stabbed them in the back several times. After that, he also killed an 22-year old. The victims are identified as Lucille Garcia, Soraya Belkachemi and Cyril Wangrikken.

The name of the perpetrator later became known - he turned out to be 36-year-old Benjamin Herman, a violent drug dealer who was released from prison the day before the attack. The police are now investigating whether the man actually converted to Islam. During his imprisonment, jailers said, he had become very close to a radical Islamist prisoner, was "psychologically unstable" and wanted to "carry out attacks after his release."

He was convicted of robbery, assault and drug trafficking, but was not on the list of persons prone to terrorism.

Herman, a Belgian citizen, was due to return to his hometown of Rochefort, 65km from Liege, after his release, but prison officials warned the man was “extremely violent and aggressive”.

After his release on Monday afternoon, Herman was believed by law enforcement officers to rob a jewelry store in Rochefort. After that, according to investigators, the offender went to Luxembourg, where he killed a drug dealer.

After that, he came to Liege, where he killed two polysvumen who checked the implementation of parking rules in the city.

Slapping two women with a knife, he took their official weapons and shot them in the head to make sure they were dead. According to local media, at that moment he shouted "Allah Akbar", the police have not yet confirmed this.

After that, he shot a man sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car, the young man died on the spot.

This was followed by an attack on the school cleaner, whom he had taken hostage, since by that time the police had arrived at the scene.

The attacker was killed, all pupils of the school were evacuated, and the hostage woman was released, she did not receive any injuries. During the operation, two police officers were injured.

Police said that at the moment the main attack is considered to be a terrorist attack.
