A new hurricane, Irma, has formed in the Atlantic Ocean.

Tropical storm Irma in the Atlantic intensified to a hurricane of the third category on a 5-scale, reports Fox News with reference to the US National Center for Hurricane Prevention (NHC).

Wind speed is 185 km per hour. The storm began in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean at 1159 kilometers west of Cabo Verde Island and moved north-westward at a speed of about 19 km per hour.

The storm gained strength in less than a day after the formation. According to meteorologists, Irma does not pose a direct threat to land, but it is still too early to talk about its future trajectory of movement.

On Wednesday at 11 hours of the day, the wind speed was 160 km per hour. Weather forecasters warned that the hurricane will intensify to the 3 category on Thursday or Friday, as it continues to move westward at a speed of 16 km per hour.

According to forecasts, the hurricane will wander in the Atlantic Ocean for a week.

WeatherBell meteorologist Ryan Mau said that Irma is likely to increase to the 4 or 5 categories and bring noticeable winds, moving closer to the Caribbean on Monday.

Forecasters are following another storm that may come to the Gulf of Mexico this weekend. If it really strengthens, then Texas and Louisiana cannot avoid additional precipitation.

Recall that the US National Weather Service lowered the status of Hurricane Harvey to the lowest - "tropical cyclone", but weather forecasters continue to predict heavy rain over East Texas and West Louisiana.
