Uzbek community in Brooklyn condemns terrorist attack in New York

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Wednesday called the attack a cruel and inhuman act, assuring that his country is ready to use all the forces and means to assist in the investigation.

“We express full solidarity with the people of the United States of America,” said a statement by Mirziyoyev, published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

“We strongly condemn the terrorist attack against civilians in New York and express our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones,” said the Turkestan-American Association of New York and New Jersey on behalf of the Uzbek community in a document sent “Voice of America" by email.

According to the Cato Institute, over the past 20 years, only about 40 thousands of Uzbeks have immigrated to the USA, and only 2% of them have become refugees.

A political analyst from the Washington research organization David Beer believes that this is the first time that a citizen of Uzbekistan committed a murder in the United States during the terrorist attack.
