USCIS offers special immigration services to California victims of fires.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offers special immigration services that can help people affected by unforeseen circumstances, particularly the devastating fires in California.

Their list is published on the website of the department.

The following services are offered:

• Change of status or extension of stay for persons currently in the United States on non-immigrant visas. The applicant may be released from liability for failure to comply with the deadlines for filing an application for the extension or change of non-immigration status, if the delay was caused by emergency circumstances independent of the applicant, including fires in California;
• Re-eligibility for persons with undefined status to enter the US - passwords (a document authorizing the return entry to the United States to those applicants who need to temporarily leave the country while their immigration case is under consideration) for persons who have previously received this permission from USCIS;
• Expedited processing of preliminary requests for passwords;
• Accelerated consideration of work permit requests for students experiencing severe economic difficulties;
• Expedited consideration of applications for work permits, if necessary;
• Revision of the terms of payment for services, in case the applicant was unable to make payment on time due to a fire;
• Help those who received a request for evidence (Request for Evidence) Or Notice of Intent to Deny, but due to fires could not in time provide evidence or respond to a request;
• Support for those who, due to fires, could not be on time for a scheduled interview at USCIS;
• Accelerated replacement of lost or damaged immigration or travel documents issued by USCIS, such as a permanent resident card (green card);
• Reassignment of a meeting to remove biometric data, if the applicant was unable to appear at a previously scheduled meeting due to fires.

When applying for these services, the applicant must explain how the fires created the need for the requested service.
