Scientists say that the color of the sky and clouds — the result of how the sun scatters in a special way, passing through hurricane thunderclouds. The low-level clouds from Dorian scattered light at such a long wavelength that their eyes and cameras caught the violet color. A similar phenomenon could also be observed after Hurricane Michael in 2018.
Amy Pope-Latham claims to have watched Wednesday as the sky outside her Jacksonville apartment turned from gray to “beautiful purple, and became even brighter over time.”

“I live in Jacksonville. We stayed indoors all day, constantly checking the forecast to see where Dorian was, " — she said.
Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas Abaco and Grand Bahama and caused the death of at least 30 people. It moves slowly along the east coast of the USA.
Berivan Keskin was preparing dinner for the family when she noticed that the sky began to change. She lives in Jacksonville for about two years and has never seen a hurricane before. Her house was not damaged by the elements. The woman said the sunset was fabulously beautiful.
Amy Pope-Latham said she had never seen anything like it, the power of the elements enthralled her.
“The sky was definitely a pleasant reminder that we should have hope, and if we believe in the sun only when it is shining, we will never survive the night.” — she wrote.
