Eight Ukrainian designers held shows at Fashion Week in Los Angeles

Eight selected Ukrainian fashion brands took part in Los Angeles Fashion Week for the first time. The special show aroused great interest among local fashion experts, reports Voice of America.

Today on the catwalk of Los Angeles Fashion Week there are only clothes from Ukrainian designers. This is the final stage of the Ukrainian Fashion Forward project. The program was created by Startup Ukraine to help Ukrainian fashion brands enter the global market.

Experience for designers

“The experience that we have today is, as they say, experience here and now for eight designers. They will be able to gain unique experience, understand the market, show themselves and, thanks to this, further build their business strategies. But this is about business. My global goal and mission is to promote made in Ukraine abroad,” emphasized Anna Petrova, President of Startup Ukraine.

Eight Ukrainian designers were presented at Fashion Week. One of them, Andre Tan, is a famous name in the Ukrainian fashion world.

“I urge all people to open their eyes and look at what is happening in my country right now. It is very important that we show our culture: that these are not only embroidered shirts, that these are very modern clothes, that these clothes are sexy. Because everyone thinks that only American designers can make sexy,” noted Andre Tan.

The three-month Ukrainian Fashion Forward program consisted of training on building a strategy for entering the US market and master classes with American experts in the fashion world. Before attending Fashion Week, participants had the opportunity to show their collections at the Los Angeles Fair in one of the most prestigious showrooms.

Eight designers were selected from nearly one hundred applicants. It was they who were chosen thanks not only to their talent, but also to their courage, because these masters continue to work in war conditions.

“First of all, I want to show that, despite the war, Ukrainian women are strong, independent, sexy, beautiful. And they show it to the whole world, especially in our swimsuits,” said Anastasia Shashkova, Ukrainian designer.

“I received a notification that I was one of those who will go to the USA. I started crying, my hands were just shaking. I could no longer think about anything else, only about my show. This was my dream,” said Alena Onofriychuk, a Ukrainian designer.

American models, showing Ukrainian clothes for the first time, say that they felt a sense of special responsibility.

“I really like the suit. I am very happy that I have the opportunity to support Ukrainian brands,” shared model Ala Keri.

“This collection is from Must Have - I fell in love with it. I tried it on endlessly, and it looked so cool,” added model Nena.

The next step of the project will be to look for opportunities to enter the American market.
