Ukraine breaks military-technical cooperation with Russia
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine ceases military-technical cooperation with the Russian Federation.
This decision was announced by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a May 20 government meeting.
“Once upon a time there was such an agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation - it was signed on May 26, 1993 - on military-technical cooperation. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decides to terminate this agreement,” he said.
“The Russian Federation is an aggressor state, the Russian Federation illegally annexed Crimea, the Russian Federation carried out military intervention in the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, the Russian Federation poses a danger to the Ukrainian state and its territorial integrity,” Yatsenyuk explained.
“And therefore the agreement on military-technical cooperation with Russia is being terminated by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine,” he emphasized.
As is known, Russia invaded Crimea in February 2014 of the year and finally annexed it in March of that year, simultaneously launching aggression in the east of Ukraine and trying to loosen the situation in the south and north (Odessa, Kherson, Nikolaev, Kharkov regions). Part of the Donbass is now under the control of the pro-Russian militants who are financed and equipped by Russia.
