Ukraine will transfer four customs to the management of the British company
Ukraine intends to transfer four customs houses - Transcarpathian, Lviv, Volyn and Chernivtsi - to the management of the British company Crown Agents, said Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
According to Yatsenyuk, the transfer will take place “as soon as possible.” The purpose of this innovation, according to the prime minister, is to restore order in the work of customs and fight corruption and smuggling.
“These experimental customs will give us the opportunity to train Ukrainian customs officers so that the entire system, which remains corrupt, is reformed as soon as possible,” the UNIAN agency quotes the prime minister as saying.
On Wednesday, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to establish a working group on the transfer of four customs offices to the Crown Agents.
After the shooting in Mukachevo, Arseniy Yatsenyuk instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs to open criminal cases into abuses at the Transcarpathian customs, and the head of the State Fiscal Service, Roman Nasirov, to fire all employees of this customs.
The head of the main investigative department of the Security Service of Ukraine, Grigory Ostafiychuk, called the classification of the shooting in Mukachevo as a “terrorist attack” unfounded. In his opinion, the shooting was related to the redistribution of areas of smuggling activity.
Ukrainian politician Mustafa Nayem, who was then at the scene, agrees that the cause of the conflict in Mukachevo was a redistribution of the cigarette smuggling market.
