Ukraine can turn off the Crimea electricity

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will consider an electronic petition demanding to stop the supply of electricity to the Crimea, annexed by Russia in the spring of 2014 of the year.

By law, the president is obliged to consider a petition in his address if she receives the support of more than 25 thousand people.

The petition to disconnect the Crimea from the power supply gained the required number of votes in less than two months, and now has to be considered by the head of state within ten days.

Earlier, Forum reported that in September, public activists and representatives of political parties in Ukraine Have begun action on the blockade of the peninsula, stopping trucks at the border with the Crimea.

The current authorities of Crimea claim that the blockade had practically no effect on the economic situation on the peninsula.

However, the demand for electricity in the Crimea for 70 percent is provided by Ukraine, and it will not be possible to compensate for the power cut off of it by supplies from Russia at the moment.

Crimea was included to Russia in March 2014 of the year. In the republic held a referendum, which resulted in the inhabitants of the peninsula in favor of secession from Ukraine and joining Russia. Kiev called the referendum illegitimate, and the alienation of the Crimea - annexation.
