Solar powered aircraft burned batteries
The Solar Impulse-2 solar powered aircraft damaged its batteries after a five-day flight over the Pacific from Nagoya to Hawaii. It is reported by BBC News.
Replacing overheated items may take more than two weeks. This, as well as the expectation of favorable weather conditions, may delay the next Solar Impulse-2 flight by August 2015.
On a world tour, the plane departed 9 in March 2015 of the year, starting at 03: 12 local time (02: 12 Moscow) from Abu Dhabi. As expected, the unit will cover about 30 thousands of kilometers, spending 25 days in the air and flying over the territories of the United Arab Emirates, Oman, India, Myanmar, China, Japan, the USA, Canada and European countries. The aircraft is alternately controlled by two pilots: Andre Borshberg and Bertrand Picard.
HB-SIB, as the second model of the Solar Impulse series is officially called, is intended to demonstrate the potential of alternative energy. His presentation took place on 9 March 2014.
During the mission, the Solar Impulse-2 pilot broke the record for the duration of the flight of an aircraft controlled by one pilot. He managed to overcome more than 7212 kilometers in 117 hours 52 minutes.
