Google Flights has a new service: it will tell you when to buy flights so that they are as cheap as possible

Google Flights, an online flight booking service, already tells you whether current ticket prices are low, typical or high, and will now tell you exactly when the cheapest time to book is.

The existing tool works by comparing past averages for the same route and also offers a "price history" chart. Google Flights now reports "when prices have typically been the lowest for your selected dates and destinations."

For example, you will receive notifications like this:

• Usually the cheapest time to book is later, between September 13th and December 7th.
• The lowest prices for such tours in Miami are usually found about 1-3 months before departure. Prices at this time are on average $59 cheaper.

If now is the cheapest time to book, Google Flights will mark how long (by date) it stays that way. This data is available through "search queries with reliable trend data".

“Best time to book flights for Christmas: For trips starting in mid-December, you're most likely to find good deals around early October. Average prices tend to be lowest 71 days before departure, which is a significant change from our 2022 data, which showed average prices were lowest just 22 days before departure. And the typical low price range now is 54-78 days before departure,” says Google.

“Best time to book flights from the US to Europe: Average prices were lowest 72 days or more before departure. In other words, average prices for airfare from the US to Europe tend to increase over time, especially if you're about 10 weeks away from departure. So if you want to dust off your passport, you should book your flight ASAP,” the system warns.
