Texas tourist drowns in sand on Maryland beach

A tourist from Texas at night "drowned" in the sand on one of the beaches of Maryland.
30-year-old Ashley O'Conor from Plano, Texas, died of sandblasting, according to the office of the Chief Medical Officer of Maryland.
“Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the sand to form the trap, which we may never know, but we are still investigating the case,” said spokeswoman Lindsay Richard with the Ocean City Police Department.
Richard said that O'Connor "drowned" in the sand, not in the water and not from vomitus.
Officials are awaiting a toxicology test result to determine if alcohol played any role in the death of O'Connor.
A woman who recently married a wife, Janet, came to rest with her parents, but left them around 2 in the morning. Her body was found resting on the beach around 6: 30 in the morning that day.
According to the medical examiner, they cannot determine how O'Conner fell into the pit. There are versions that she began to dig her herself, but then suddenly plunged into the sand with her head.
“The sand is very, very unstable,” said Capt. Butch Arbin of Ocean beach patrol. “At some point it settles and you get stuck in it.”
The captain added that "the deeper you dig, the greater the risk of getting bogged down, because as soon as there is pressure on the bottom layer of sand, you can get bogged down in it with your head very quickly." In the afternoon, the beach patrol strictly ensures that beachers do not make deep digs.
