A tourist fell into the sand on a Florida beach and died
A tourist from Texas died two days after falling into a sand tunnel during a vacation with his family. His demise was confirmed by his sister.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon on a beach in St. Augustine, Florida, near Jacksonville. Lee Goggin, according to family and friends, dug a hole near the sand dunes. The depth of the pit was about one and a half meters. At some point a man was covered with sand from dunes around.
Investigators in the State of Florida told WTLV-TV in Jacksonville that Goggin did not pay a “no entry” warning sign and went to the beach on Sunday afternoon.
Relatives and friends of the family tried to save the man themselves, but after unsuccessful attempts they called rescuers.
Lee got through 30 minutes after the incident. He was taken to Flagler County Hospital with a cardiac arrest. He managed to restore his heart rate, but he did not breathe on his own.
Goggin was born with a rare genetic condition that did not allow him to sweat. This condition led to kidney failure, and eventually he was transplanted a kidney in 2014. The donor was his brother Aaron.
To save Lee, he was put in a medical coma, but he died two days after the incident.
His sister announced his demise by posting on her page in Facebook post.
