Turkey will not tighten the rules of entry for the Russians

Turkey at the moment does not intend to introduce a visa regime for Russians in response to Moscow’s actions, the Turkish Embassy in Moscow said.

“Türkiye considers the Russian people friendly and wishes the continuation of good relations. Türkiye does not intend to make decisions that will negatively affect the Russian people. In this regard, the issue of introducing a visa regime is not on the agenda at the moment,” the Turkish Embassy in Moscow said, answering the question whether Ankara will introduce visas for Russians similar to Moscow’s decision.

“Turkey, no matter what, will continue to treat Russian citizens in Turkey in accordance with its traditions of hospitality and human respect,” the diplomatic mission noted.

Earlier it was reported that Russia since January 1 2016 suspends visa-free regime for citizens of Turkey, who own civil passports. Such a measure is taken after the Turkish side knocked down Russian bomber Su-24.

The agreement between the governments of Russia and Turkey on the conditions of mutual trips of citizens was signed on 12 on May 2010 of the year in Ankara and entered into force on April 16 of 2011. According to the agreement, for entry, exit or transit and stay in the territory of another state within 30 days from the date of entry, citizens of Russia and Turkey need to have a valid civilian or official (special) passport. In this case, the total stay in the territory of another state should not exceed 90 days during each period in 180 days.
