Trump introduces new duties on Chinese goods: how will this affect consumers

US President Donald Trump August 1 wrote in Twitter With the intention of 1 September to introduce new duties on imported Chinese goods in the US for 300 billions of dollars.

This expansion will actually introduce duties on all Chinese goods entering the United States, writes CNN.

“Trade negotiations continue and as negotiations progress, the United States will begin imposing small additional tariffs of 1% on the remaining $10 billion of goods flowing from China into our country on September 300,” the president wrote.

U.S. trade representatives were in China this week as part of ongoing talks between the two countries. In tweets, the president called the talks "constructive" but said the Chinese had not resumed purchasing American agricultural products as promised, so new tariffs would be imposed.

Last year, Trump imposed duties on goods produced in China, worth about 250 billions of dollars. They mainly touched industrial materials and components. After unsuccessful negotiations in May 2019, he announced his intention to introduce new duties on the remaining Chinese goods imported into America, but then said that he suspended their introduction for an indefinite time.
