US President Donald Trump at least twice expressed the idea in the White House to blow up hurricanes going to the United States. Similar suggestions struck his advisers.

One of the sources conveyed the president’s words expressed during one of the White House meetings on the hurricane problem: “I understand. I understood. Why don't we detonate them with a nuclear bomb? They [hurricanes] begin to form off the coast of Africa, when they move across the Atlantic, we drop a bomb at the epicenter of a hurricane, and it destroys it. Why can't we do that? ”He quoted Trump.

The source also added that Trump had previously expressed a similar idea in a conversation with a senior White House official. The materials from the meeting of the US National Security Council in 2017 say that the president asked if the administration could bomb hurricanes. Axios sources add that Trump's idea of ​​bombing hurricanes has not been continued. The White House said it did not comment on its private discussions with the national security team.

There is a theory that it is possible to reduce the destructive power of a hurricane by increasing the air pressure in its heart. But, according to NASA estimates, even a nuclear warhead explosion would not be enough.
