Trump is ready to impose duties on $ 11 billion goods from the European Union: which will rise in price
US President Donald Trump confirmed plans to introduce duties on goods from the EU in response to EU subsidies for the Airbus aircraft manufacturer.
The World Trade Organization (WTO), in its decision last May, decided that European countries provided Airbus 22 with a billion dollars in state aid to build A380 and A350 aircraft, causing damage to a US competitor, Boeing.
“The World Trade Organization has ruled that European Union subsidies to Airbus have negatively impacted the United States, which will now impose tariffs on $11 billion of EU products,” Trump wrote. — The EU has been deceiving the US to achieve its interests for many years. This must stop."
In addition to Trump's statement, the new list of duties will take effect only after the WTO arbitrator makes a decision on the allowable amount of the duty package. And it will take several months.
For years, the European Union and the United States disputed each other's mutual subsidies from Airbus and Boeing, which have long preceded Trump's 27 month presidency. At various times, the WTO opposed both.
Airbus representatives called the Trump administration’s actions “completely unfounded”, adding that the company had made changes to satisfy WTO regulators. Meanwhile, the competitor Airbus, Boeing, highly appreciated this step and called on the EU to implement the WTO decision.
The US Trade Representation has published a preliminary list of goods, which included including civil aviation, including Airbus aircraft, as well as their components.
The list also includes products: salmon fillet, crabs, cheeses of various kinds, olive oil, jams, juices, wine, carpets and much more.
Restrictions may affect goods imported from four EU countries: France, Germany, Spain and the UK.
Recall that earlier Ukraine lost WTO transit dispute with Russia.
