In the Russian city of Tver, priests from an airplane consecrated the city with holy water to protect residents from alcoholism and indiscriminate sexual relations. Writes about this with the BBC.

Every year on All-Russian Day of Sobriety, Father Alexander Goryachev gets on a plane and flies over the city with icons.

However, this year the local bishop decided that this was not enough, and proposed to take on board also 70 liters of holy water.

Father Alexander assures: in previous years such flights have already proved their effectiveness.

“Together with the “Inexhaustible Chalice” icon, we have been flying over the city since 2006, it is already a city relic. Believe it or not, one day, after seeing a plane flying past, a man told his wife that he would quit drinking alcohol. And I stopped,” he says.

During a flight over the city at an altitude of about 300 meters, Father Alexander pours holy water from an airplane, and the metropolitan, who is nearby, reads a prayer service.

The father explains that it is necessary to pour holy water from the plane, and not use a sprinkler - otherwise, splashes of water will fall back into the plane.
