Court in New York gave the billionaire four years in prison for bribing UN officials
A court in New York found 69-year-old Chinese billionaire Ang Lap Seng guilty of bribing UN officials and gave him four years in prison. He writes about it Rtvi with reference to the Bloomberg edition.

The prosecution demanded six years in prison for a businessman. But the court took into account the elderly age of the entrepreneur, his state of health and his charitable activities. Therefore, the sentence softened. More Ang Lap Seng will pay about $ 2,5 million fine and a UN compensation of $ 303 thousand. During the last word, the defendant said that he was repenting and would no longer make mistakes.
In October 2015, the prosecutor’s office accused the businessman of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on bribing UN officials to promote his project. Ang Lap Seng wanted to build a conference center on an artificial island off the coast of Macau. This building was supposed to be part of a large complex that would include a hotel, apartments, restaurants and a casino. Due to the mention of the UN, the cost and prestige of the complex increased significantly.
In total, six people were involved in the case. Former Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the UN, Francis Lorenzo admitted his guilt and, before the trial, he was released on bail. Another person involved in the case - the former president of the UN General Assembly and permanent representative of Antigua and Barbuda, John Ash died in the summer of 2016.
