Baltic countries require Walmart to remove clothes with symbols of the USSR in the USA

Representatives of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have criticized the American supermarket chain Walmart for selling clothes with the symbols of the USSR.

Lithuanian Ambassador to the USA Rolandas Krischyunas appealed to the Walmart leadership with a letter in which he demanded to withdraw such clothes from the sale, reports Deutsche Welle with reference to AP.

According to Krisciunas, hundreds of thousands of Lithuanian citizens suffered during the “Soviet occupation”.

“Under the Soviet hammer and sickle, terrible crimes took place. The promotion of such symbols resonates with great pain for many centuries,” the Lithuanian diplomat emphasized.

At the same time, he noted that he does not think that Walmart deliberately decided to hurt people's feelings by selling clothes with Soviet symbols.

“But in this case, T-shirts and other products with symbols of mass murder should be immediately withdrawn from sale,” said Rolandas Krisciunas.

Criticized and adidas

A group of deputies of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia also sent a letter to the leadership of Walmart.

According to parliamentarians, the supermarket chain, by selling clothes with symbols of the Soviet Union, “demonstrates a lack of integrity,” so Walmart should immediately stop selling such items. Representatives of the company have not yet responded to the demands of the deputies.

In May, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry criticized the German sportswear manufacturer Adidas, which released T-shirts with the inscription “USSR” before the World Cup in Russia.
